Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 23, 2026
Build in the County ("we", "us", "our"), operated by Ontario Lead Networks Inc., is committed to protecting the privacy and personal information of visitors to buildinthecounty.ca ("the Site"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the information you choose to give us through the quote request form on this Site:
- Your name
- Your email address and, if you provide one, your phone number
- The town or area where your property is located
- The project type, timeframe and any details you write in the message field
- The date and time of your consent
We also collect limited technical information automatically — such as browser type, referring page and general location — through analytics, but only after you accept cookies on this Site.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your information is used for one purpose: to introduce you to one independent local builder who serves your area so that they can contact you and arrange a no-obligation quote. We also use it to respond to any question you send us directly, and to keep a record of your consent as PIPEDA requires.
3. Who We Share It With
One builder. That's it. When you submit the form, your details are shared with a single independent general contractor matched to your area and project type. We do not share your information with any other contractor, we do not operate a bidding marketplace, and we do not sell, rent or trade your information to data brokers, advertisers or unrelated third parties.
Your information may be processed by the service providers that keep this Site running — our form-handling provider and our website host — strictly for the purpose of delivering your request to us.
4. How We Make Money
How we make money. Build in the County is operated by Ontario Lead Networks Inc. ("OLN"), a paid lead-referral business. When you submit a project request, your contact details are shared with one matched local builder, and that builder pays OLN a referral fee for the introduction. You are not charged for this service, and the fee is not added to the price you are quoted. See OLN's full Privacy Policy at ontarioleadnetworks.ca/privacy.html for your full rights under PIPEDA, including how to request access, correction, or deletion of your information.
5. Consent
We collect express consent through a checkbox on the quote form before any information is shared with a builder. You may withdraw that consent at any time by emailing us at the address below; we will stop using your information and, where we are not required to keep it, delete it. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything already done while consent was in place.
6. Cookies and Analytics
This Site uses a cookie banner. Analytics cookies load only if you click "Accept". Declining does not limit any part of the Site. You can also clear or block cookies through your browser settings at any time. A separate cookie remembers your light or dark theme preference; it contains no personal information.
7. Retention
Ontario Lead Networks Inc. (the operator of this site) follows PIPEDA Principle 5: we keep your information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, except where Canadian law requires longer retention.
Your personally identifying information (name, email, phone, project notes) is redacted no later than 90 days after we pass your enquiry to the matched builder. As a safety net, the absolute maximum we keep that information is 6 months from the date you submitted your request, even if the enquiry is never matched.
Financial transaction records (lead ID, dates, fee amount, contractor ID — no personally identifying fields) are retained for six years from the end of the relevant tax year, as required of every Canadian business by the Canada Revenue Agency under the Income Tax Act. After that period they are also purged.
Redaction runs automatically on a daily schedule and is recorded in a tamper-evident audit log. You do not need to request it.
8. Security
Information is transmitted over an encrypted connection and stored with reputable service providers. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information involved.
9. Your Rights
Under PIPEDA you may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask that it be corrected, or ask that it be deleted. Write to us at the address below and we will respond within the time PIPEDA allows. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
10. Children
This Site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
